The Platform and Issues Committee took action on redistricting and got the Hillsborough Democratic Party to pass the resolution  in January, 2009:

Given that Principle 5 of the HCDEC Platform states that "Every citizen has the right and the duty to vote in fair elections and to have that vote counted,

and

Given that the partisan methods traditionally used by the Florida Legislature in redistricting legislative and congressional seats tend to introduce inequalities due to gerrymandered precincts and districts,

Therefore, be it resolved that:

The Hillsborough County Democratic Party (HCDEC)

Adopts a position in favor of the two petitions being offered by FairDistrictsFlorida.org that put into the constitution certain fairness standards for the legislature to follow when drawing districts, and

Urges all precinct committeemen and committeewomen and other officers of the Party to carry these petitions into their precincts urging citizens to sign them.
